New Year’s Eve

December 31st, 2007 by mechellem

Every December millions of people begin penning their New Year’s resolutions, planning behavioral changes to make during the coming year. And everyone I know who thinks they’re human would have resolutions like weight loss and financial planning.

I’m sure couples will definitely go for the 08/08/08 date to tie the knots… hmmm I suggest they do it on 08:08:08 08/08/08, an eight, as it is for Chinese, not only portends prosperity but happiness and confidence as well.

I haven’t thought of my new year’s resolution, though. I’d say I’m so busy to think about it. Afterall, it’s not about what you will not do … it’s about what you will do this 2008.

————

The day after tomorrow is the beginning of year 2008. Tonight I prepare my stuff for tomorrow’s New Year’s Eve celebration at Siloso Beach Sentosa. Everything’s new from head to toe. Got new top, pants, shoes, and bag… hmmm how about a new persona… Will I be a new me on 2008?

————

I’d say that year 2007 is a good time of year for me. My lifestyles have changed and I learned to be literally independent. My previous year-ends felt like unfinished but this time seems like the end is the beginning of another phase of life. I surely have plans for year 2008. Which I think will be difficult though realistic enough for me.

Two Times You Are Mine

A little boy made a boat
Made it out of wood
Put it on the river
String tied the two together
But the current broke the string
And the boat drifted away

A little boy made a promise
With teardrops in his eyes
That someday he’ll reclaim the boat
And bring back the two together

And it didn’t take too long
When he saw the boat
In the window of the store
So he save all his money
And he bought the boat
And as he walked away
You could hear him say

Chorus:
Now you’re mine, mine
Two times you’re mine
Once because I made you
Twice because I bought you
Now you’re mine, mine
Two times you’re mine,
Bought once because
I Love You so

God made the man
Made it out of Love
Put it on the world of love
And love binds the two … together

But the man broke that love
And the man drifted away

God made a Promise
From His throne on high
That one day He’ll reclaim the man
And bring back the two together

And it didn’t take too long
He sent Jesus His only Son
Then Jesus crucified
On the Cross that day
And as He suffered
You could hear Him say

Chorus:
Now you’re mine, mine
Two times you’re mine
Once because I made you
Twice because I bought you
Now you’re mine, mine
Two times you’re mine,
Bought once because
I Love You so

Merry Christmas, for unto us a Child is born!

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

December 16th, 2007 by mechellem

A quote from Yahoo Personals:

Actions Speak Louder Than Words by David Wygant

When you do not approach within seconds of spotting her, you might as well go home.

Most men think that they need a clever line to approach a woman. But through all my years of coaching men and women, I have found that it is not what you say that’s important, but how you approach.
Most women put more importance on visual clues to assess a man’s character. They don’t care what you say, as long as you say it without hesitation and with authority. Unfortunately, most men don’t know this, so they walk over to a woman like a wounded animal expecting to be rejected. When you approach like a wounded animal, you will be rejected every single time — no matter how clever a remark you may have.
With 80 percent of human interaction based on nonverbal body language, what is a man to do? The key to impressing her right off the bat is to be different from all the other men who are approaching her that evening.
Here a few sure-fire ways to make your approach more powerful and convincing, even if you are not sure what you are going to say:
  1. Walk with confidence. When you see a woman that you are attracted to, walk right over. Stand up straight and walk over slowly but with confidence. Make sure your chest is puffed out and your posture is looking strong and not slumped over. Keep eye contact as you approach. Do not hesitate. Most men linger in the background before they approach, then, when you finally do approach, she is quick to turn her back on you. The reason is that you did not exude confidence. Most women notice who is observing them. When you do not approach within seconds of spotting her, you might as well go home.

Dear Santa

December 9th, 2007 by mechellem

Dear Santa,

I’ve been pretty good this year, unless you count that one-day (which would have worked out fine if ‘we’ estimated the right timing). Okay, because of that I won’t be presumptuous or anything…I’ll ask just a little wish which I hope you and your elves could find it in your hearts to forego the coal and get me some hired help….

This Too Will Pass (soon)

December 2nd, 2007 by mechellem

It’s Sunday 7:15 pm, I laid on my bed and thought of the things I’ve done in the past 3days… it was great, relaxing… but then again my night began to converse with its loneliness… and I know this too will pass.

I invite you to read this thought provoking story:

you may also link to my wordpress >>> http://mechelle.wordpress.com

—————
Once a king called upon all of his wise men and asked them,

" Is there a mantra or suggestion which works in every situation, in every circumstances, in every place and in every time. Something which can help me when none of you is available to advise me. Tell me is there any mantra?"

All wise men got puzzled by King’s question. One answer for all question? Something that works everywhere, in every situation? In every joy every sorrow, every defeat and every victory? They thought and thought. After a lengthy discussion, an old man suggested something which appeal to all of them. They went to king and gave him something written on paper. But the condition was that king was not to see it out of curiosity. Only in extreme danger, when the King finds himself alone and there seems to be no way, only then he’ll have to see it. The King put the papers under his Diamond ring.

After a few days, the neighbors attack the Kingdom. It was a collective surprise attack of King’s enemies. King and his army fought bravely but lost the battle. King had to fled on his horse. The enemies were following him. His horse took him  far away in Jungle. He could hear many troops of horses were following him and the noise was coming closer and closer. Suddenly the King found himself standing in the end of the road - that road was not going anywhere. Underneath there was a rocky valley thousand feet deep. If he jumped into it, he would be finished…and he could not return because it was a small road…From back the sound of enemy’s horses was approaching fast. King became restless. There seemed to be no way.

Then suddenly he saw the Diamond in his ring shining in the sun, and he remembered the message hidden in the ring. He opened the diamond and read the message. The message was very small but very great.

The message was - " This too will pass."

The King read it . Again read it. Suddenly something strike in his mind- Yes ! it too will pass. Only a few days ago, I was enjoying my kingdom. I was the mightiest of all the Kings. Yet today, the Kingdom and all his pleasure have gone. I am here trying to escape from enemies. However when those days of luxuries have gone, this day of danger too will pass. A calm come on his face. He kept standing there. The place where he was standing was full of natural beauty. He had never known that such a beautiful place was also a part of his Kingdom. The revelation of message had a great effect on him. He relaxed and forget about those following him. After a few minute he realized that the noise of the horses and the enemy coming was receding. They moved into some other part of the mountains and were not on that path.

The King was very brave. He reorganized his army and fought again. He defeated the enemy and regain his lost empire. When he returned to his empire after victory, he was received with much fan fare at the door. The whole capital was rejoicing in the victory. Everyone was in a festive mood. Flowers were being thrown on King from every house, from every corner. People were dancing and singing. For a moment King said to himself," I am one of the bravest and greatest King. It is not easy to defeat me.: With all the reception and celebration he saw an ego emerging in him.

Suddenly the Diamond of his ring flashed in the sunlight and reminded him of the message. He open it and read it again: "This too will pass"

He became silent. His face went through a total change -from the egoist he moved to a state of utter humbleness.

If this too is going to pass, it is not yours.
The defeat was not yours, the victory is not yours.
You are just a watcher. Everything passes by

We are witness of all this. We are the perceiver. Life come and goes. Happiness come and goes. Sorrow come and goes.

Now as you have read this story, just sit silently and evaluate your own life. This too will pass. Think of the moments of joy and victory in your life. Think of the moment of Sorrow and defeat. Are they permanent. They all come and pass away. Life just passes away.

There were friends in past. They all have gone.
There are friends today. They too will go.
There will be new friends tomorrow. They too will go.

There were enemies in past. They have gone.
There may be enemy in present. They too will go.
There will be new enemies tomorrow and……they too will go.

There is nothing permanent in this world. Every thing changes except the law of change. Think over it from your own perspective. You have seen all the changes. You have survived all setbacks , all defeats and all sorrows. All have passed away. If there are problems in the present, they too will pass away. Because nothing remains forever. Joy and sorrow are the two faces of the same coin. They both will pass away. Who are you in reality? Know your real face. Your face is not your true face. It will change with the time. However, there is something in you, which will not change. It will remain unchanged.  What is that unchangeable ? It is nothing but your true self.

You are just a witness of change. Experience it, understand it.

Everyday for 10-15 minutes sit in silence. Just think over the sentence, " This too will pass." Pondering over your own life will make you realize the true meaning of this sentence. Everything passes yet your real identity remains the same. That real you is your true self. To know that self is true meditation.

Workout

November 10th, 2007 by mechellem

I have been a member of Fitness First since July this year, a formerly known “health buff” friend named Marlon invited me to join the club. For about 4 months I was using the usual cardio equipments such as treadmill, elliptical, and steppers (my favourite). It was good but quite boring!

I was about to freeze my membership when Gen, a friend, invited me to visit TrueYoga (another fitness club). TrueYoga and Fitness First offer almost the same range of classes including world-renowned Les Mills programmes such as Body Balance, Body Combat, Body Jam, Yoga, Tai Chi etc. Then, what’s the point of changing membership? Thanks to Gen, I realized that the club itself has nothing to do on my workout’s ineffectiveness, it has something to do with myself, I just have to take time and make it a habit. Besides, Fitness First is indeed the best, not to mention that its “Passport Lifestyle-membership” can be used to over 500 clubs worldwide.

Fitness First Slogan:

Motivation is what gets you started, Habit is what keeps you going.

Today, after the body combat session at Ang Mo Kio, I think I’d like to relax on deck chair at the poolside and enjoy the awe inspiring views of the Esplanade and the Skyline from the Sky Garden at One George Street.

The premise of this note is to encourage you to make used of what you have. Sometimes we tend to overlook or take for granted the best things we have in life. :-) Onegeorgest_11 Onegeorgestsg_1

On my next post… will unleash my inner warrior, the Body COMBATer.

Halloween in the Philippines

November 3rd, 2007 by mechellem

I have nothing to share on halloween event here in Singapore, so i opted to post these photos taken last year 2005 during the halloween boo bash with my previous company IBM Philippines.

Boo_bash_in_philippines_3

This is one of the reason why up to this day, I missed my home country. I missed the way we celebrate events.

HalloweenI have never thought of going back there for good, though. But I must admit that I missed the people, the food and even the many political controversies hounding the government, and of course the heated controversies in (ahem) showbiz.

There’s no place like home, I may travel around the world, but one thing is for sure, as Gen. Mc Arthur once said,

I shall return.Boo_bashh_in_philippines_3

Are you an 8-color type?

October 28th, 2007 by mechellem

Qoute from John Mayer, an american pop music singer. “Life is like a box of crayons. Most people are the 8-color boxes, but what you’re really looking for are the 64-color boxes with the sharpeners on the back." I fancy myself to be a 64-color box, though I’ve got a few missing. It’s ok though, because I’ve got some more vibrant colors like periwinkle at my disposal. I have a bit of a problem though in that I can only meet the 8-color boxes. Does anyone else have that problem? I mean there are so many different colors of life, of feeling, of articulation.. so when I meet someone who’s an 8-color type.. I’m like, "hey boy, blue!" and he’s like, "oh, you mean indigo!" and he goes off on his indigo thing, and I’m like, "no - I want bluemagenta!"

Do you have the same problem as mine?

“One day at a time–this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful it will be worth remembering.”

Installing Love

October 21st, 2007 by mechellem

To the tech & those that are not-so-tech guys, read on!

Tech Support: Yes, how can I help you?

Customer: Well, after much consideration, I’ve decided to install Love. Can you guide me through the process?

Tech Support: Yes. I can help you. Are you ready to proceed?

Customer: Well, I’m not very technical, but I think I’m ready. What do I do first?

Tech Support: The first step is to open your Heart. Have you located your Heart?

Customer: Yes, but there are several other programs running now. Is it okay to install Love while they are running?

Tech Support: What programs are running?

Customer: Let’s see, I have Past Hurt, Low Self-Esteem, Grudge and Resentment running right now.

Tech Support: No problem, Love will gradually erase Past Hurt from your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent memory but it will no longer disrupt other programs. Love will eventually override Low Self-Esteem with a module of its own called High Self-Esteem. However, you have to completely turn off Grudge and Resentment. Those programs prevent Love from being properly installed. Can you turn those off?

Customer: I don’t know how to turn them off. Can you tell me how?

Tech Support: With pleasure. Go to your start menu and invoke Forgiveness. Do this as many times as necessary until Grudge and Resentment have been completely erased.

Customer: Okay, done! Love has started installing itself. Is that normal?

Tech Support: Yes, but remember that you have only the base program. You need to begin connecting to other Hearts in order to get the upgrades.

Customer: Oops! I have an error message already. It says, "Error - Program not run on external components." What should I do?

Tech Support: Don’t worry. It means that the Love program is set up to run on Internal Hearts, but has not yet been run on your Heart. In non-technical terms, it simply means you have to Love yourself before you can Love others.

Customer: So, what should I do?

Tech Support: Pull down Self-Acceptance; then click on the following files: Forgive-Self; Realize Your Worth; and Acknowledge your Limitations.

Customer: Okay, done.

Tech Support: Now, copy them to the "My Heart" directory. The system will overwrite any conflicting files and begin patching faulty programming Also, you need to delete Verbose Self-Criticism from all directories and empty your Recycle Bin to make sure it is completely gone and never comes back.

Customer: Got it. Hey! My heart is filling up with new files. Smile is playing on my monitor and Peace and Contentment are copying themselves all over My Heart. Is this normal ?

Tech Support: Sometimes. For others it takes awhile, but eventually everything gets it at the proper time. So Love is installed and running. One more thing before we hang up. Love is Freeware. Be sure to give it and its various modules to everyone you meet. They will in turn share it with others and return some cool modules back to you.

Customer: Thank you, God.

Please send this to every one you know.

A note from my embryonic mind

October 5th, 2007 by mechellem

Today, I imagine how I would like to be living from this moment, I want to be happy and be in love (loving the man who loved me).  I remember the woman I’ve been up: weak but trying to give the impression of strength. Fearful of expressing but telling herself it wasn’t fear — it was the wisdom of someone who knew what reality was. It’s not easy to live a life at ease, trials may come and I may fall; apparently, God’s choice doesn’t depend on how a person behaves. He can deal with anyone, no matter how flawned, who passionately pursues Him. And I thank God for He first loved me.
